When Do Veneers Need Replacing?

Posted on 5/25/2019 by Dr. Elizabeth Vivona
When Do Veneers Need Replacing?Veneers are made of thin porcelain materials that cover each tooth and restore a uniform look for teeth that have suffered from damage or decay. Veneers can change the color of your teeth damaged from staining, and they can also cover broken, cracked or chipped teeth.

While they may look it, porcelain veneers are not indestructible. With good care, veneers can last from 10 to 15 years. How do you know when veneers need replacing? Keep reading to discover when veneers might need to be replaced.

Replacing Veneers

There are some signs that your veneers might need to be replaced. First, your veneers may become stained over time from caffeine or smoking, and when that happens, you will have to have them replaced because their color cannot be improved as normal teeth color can in many cases. You may also notice that one or more of your veneers is cracked. Veneers can even break off, so you will need to watch for chipping or cracking. When any of these events happen, the veneers will have to be replaced.

The good news is that with technology, the look and construction of veneers is continuing to improve. Compared to veneers put on in the early 21st century, today's veneers look better, and are more resistant to wear and tear. If you take good care of your veneers, they may last longer than the 10 or 15 year life span- especially today's veneers.
